Old Town Louisville

Founded in 1877 as a coal mining hub, Louisville’s early days were marked by a strong sense of community and resilience. Unlike many mining towns, miners here lived within the town itself, fostering close-knit neighborhoods that still thrive today. This rich history is preserved in the Louisville Historical Museum, offering a glimpse into the town’s storied past.

Today, Louisville seamlessly blends its historical roots with modern amenities. Downtown Louisville is a vibrant area filled with boutique shops, art galleries, and a variety of dining options. Food enthusiasts can indulge in local favorites like The Huckleberry for hearty breakfasts, iconic Waterloo for American pub fare, the lesser known Nora's Speakeasy for great drinks. and the always-a-line Sweet Cow for ice cream and shakes.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Louisville offers an extensive network of trails suitable for hiking and biking. The Davidson Mesa Loop Trail provides scenic views of the Flatirons, while the Marshall Mesa trail and Drity Bismarck provide for a bit more vigorous excursions.

Geographically, Louisville is ideally situated. It’s just a 20-minute drive to Boulder, offering access to the University of Colorado and a bustling downtown. Denver is approximately 30 minutes away, providing urban experiences and international travel connections. For winter sports enthusiasts, ski resorts like Eldora Mountain are within an hour’s drive, making weekend getaways convenient.

The housing market in Louisville reflects its desirability. As of early 2025, Louisville still had one of the area's lowest days-on-market and low amount of inventory. As an area greatly impacted by the Marshall Fires at the end of 2021, the rebuid process is still underway, providing an enriching mix of home styles and great range of size, finishes, and features.

Louisville’s commitment to quality living hasn’t gone unnoticed. It has been recognized as one of the best places to live in Colorado, ranking #1 in Boulder County and #13 statewide.   Factors contributing to this acclaim include excellent public schools, low crime rates, and a strong sense of community.
